So I’ve had the starter set lying around, half-prepped (I could probably run the first adventure spontaneously, and the rest with short notice).
For our semi-open-table nights at the club, I usually bring it along – just in case an opportunity comes up.

Yesterday I was in a hurry and left it at home.
Didn’t think I’d need it. Never have.

Guess what happened?

@Emperohr das sind m.E. die beiden Pole, zur interessanten Gestaltung von Reisen:
A) Full-on Storygame Modus mit Fokus auf kollaborativ gestalteten Montageszenen ODER
B) Reisen als Ressourcenmanagement & potentielle Gefahrenquelle („Nehmt Abschied Brüder ungewiss… 🎶“) ernst nehmen und knallhart prozedual bespielen ( oder sind gute Beipiele für letzteres). Dazwischen liegt nur Erzählonkelige/-tantige Brache (been there - too long, keine Empfehlung)

idea I’ll probably never realize: A campaign set in , following the tracklist of ’s 'Nightfall in Middle-Earth"

Having the PCs take part in those big events themselves wouldn’t really work. Instead, maybe the heroes, in the Third Age, collect Elven songs and stories that match the album’s songs—perhaps for Bilbo’s collection? Along the way, they experience events that reflect those themes or visit places tied to them.

Received an email regarding a set of solo #TheOneRing sessions I wrote up. And this unfurled into such a great conversation.

I've been thinking about picking up where I left off. And those words from the ether offered energy to again rejoin the tale. Now, to dance the priority dance.

Moving along, in 2025, I'll tackle a new, weekly #OSE game (#TheHallsOfArdenVul), as well as continuing campaigns of OSE, #CallOfCthulhu, #DCCRPG, #DnD5e, #TheOneRing, and #TravellerRPG from 2024. And at the very least, I'll get to play in person at #CanCon, if not other cons and game days (possible now because I've finally settled down in a city). In all likelihood, I'll probably finally catch COVID, but that's the price of assembling in crowds these days, I guess.

That said, though, I got to play the #ADnD1e classic White Plume Mountain, an abridged version of #TravellerRPG's equally noteworthy “Ancients" saga (albeit mostly in #CypherSystem), @Splinterbone's ongoing #DnD5e #ForgottenRealms campaign, an irregular #MonsterOfTheWeek game, began campaigns of #OSE and #TheOneRing, and proudly participated in Al Smith's likely endless reimagining of #CallOfCthulhu's colossal #MasksOfNyarlathotep, featuring amongst many other embellishments…

Teilzeithelden: The One Ring – Moria: Through the doors of Durin – In geheiligten und verfluchten Hallen (Rezension)

My guess is, the authors expected the Sauron's Eye and Gandalf rune on the custom dice to replace the 11 and 12 - giving the dice numbers ranging from 1 to 10. On the final product, the runes replace the 1 and 12 - the numbers range from 2-11.

Just wrote to Free League about 2nd Edition:

On page 99, the rules state that an attack roll produces a Piercing Blow on a 10 or Gandalf rune on the Feat Die. I wonder, why it does not produce a piercing blow on an 11.

There is a similar rule in the Errata: "page 99: When you spend one or more Success icons to trigger Pierce, you can modify the Feat die numerical results of your attack to a maximum of 10."
Can you clarify on the viability of 11 for Piercing Blow and Pierce?

Time in RPGs, especially fantasy ones, is weird. Or rather, it seems to me that very frequently, time simply isn't a thing. The adventuring band is stuck in Forever May where weather isn't a problem (unless it briefly needs to be for dramatic effect) and no one ever ages.

This is one of the reasons The One Ring is brilliant. Passage of time is core to the game and makes everything in the world so much more memorable and, dare I say it, precious.
