31. Favorite RPG of all time: In my case, I would guess, it would be Ars Magica. Played it for about 30 years, though I am pausing now, GM fatigue... it is a splendid game, best magic rules of all RPGs, cool setting, tons of campaign ideas and a very modern game since its beginnings 1989 - still modern today. #arsmagica
@W99 Hear, hear! Ars Magica is among the best for me as well. One of my dream sessions - besides joining a campaign again - is to take out a Forged In The Dark hack of Ars Magica and see if that serves as an introduction for others. #arsmagica #fitd
@W99 I absolutely love it, but have always struggled to run it in my gaming group as we have 3 month sessions and then players can rotate. Rolling up new characters, with people unfamiliar with the game, every three months was tough. I ran a campaign (the Saga of Riverhill, set near York) for a year in this way before throwing in the towel. I plan to revisit a modified version where everyone plays Companions rather than Mages, as that might work better
@jaucourt I can totally understand this. Ars Magica runs best on a longer term campaign when people start to run things on their own (setting their personal or covenant's agenda etc.). I have had guest star players that started out with a companion only which is a lot of fun. Later, they could decide to create a mage and introduce him or her to the covenant. Worked pretty well. Still, you do need a relatively stable core team.
