A few days ago, we went to the Wernloch, an old stone quarry in the Lorenzer Reichswald near here, that first appears in documents in 1236. The stones quarried there were used in many of Nuremberg’s buildings and parts of the quarry were in use until the early 19th century.
It’s a neat place to go, heavily wooded, with steep cliffs and dark pools, where water has filled in the old quarries.
