60,000 cancelled subscriptions in the first 24 hours following the NO endorsement announcement from #Bezos #WaPo is absolutely staggering. this might be the first time in the history of USA media that this happens.

but forget about the Washington Post a minute: Bezos trashed his credibility overnight. doesn't matter if he has the biggest valuation in the world, making him the richest asshole on paper. Bezos wants the respectability and influence of culture makers.

that ain't happening… ever.

@blogdiva It's when the rank and file of the paper walk out in solidarity is when Bezos gets his comeuppance. It might happen.
I was one of those who canceled, because there is absolutely no way I'm supporting that. As for Prime, I've never been attracted to it, but I am guilty of buying from Amazon. Too bad it's so easy.

A phrase that has been in my mind since the start of Amazon's rise:

"Seduced by the convenient side of the Force"

That we would bathe in convenience until we were too shriveled to recognize ourselves in the mirror was something a guy said at the beginning of my junior year AP English class. It struck a chord in 1991 and maintained its poignancy.

When I cancelled Prime back in January, I thought it’d be massively more inconvenient to order stuff online. Turns out it isn’t, and it also isn’t more expensive. Matter of fact, it’s cheaper a lot of the time.

Yeah. Reading Doctorow's analyses of Amazon's pricing shenanigans def punches a hole in the "bargain" they try to pitch.

I only ever accidentally signed up for trial Prime (which is how I got to see Good Omens, R.I.P. the Gaiman we thought we knew), so I didn't have to cancel it, & I'd quit buying from Amazon some while even before the pandemic.

Can take doing finding some stuff, but I'm good at doing without on the rare occasions I can't.

@volkris @Morgunin @cavyherd @blogdiva That is a big if question. I'd ordered something this past Wednesday. They promised it would be here by Friday. Guaranteed.
I laughed. and highly doubted it.
I stopped laughing when it showed up Friday as promised.
(came from CT, I'm in Maine).
So yeah, speed can be a good thing. I'm pleased with that, but I do have reservations when ordering because of the the Amazon labor practices. This item came directly from the seller, though.
