@kubikpixel I mostly use Hyphanet (but you could likely guess that) and performance is pretty good these days: loading a site from the bookmarks takes a handful seconds. Sone for social networking and FLIP for encrypted IRC chat also just work.
And creating a site with the Sharesite plugin is a breeze. Doing more complex stuff like a site with video on demand takes some learning, though.
Tor is to access clearnet sites which I don’t want as influence on search results.
@torproject @i2p @Freenet
@ArneBab is Freenet and Hyphanet the same?
@kubikpixel @torproject @i2p @Freenet
@bjoern #Hyphanet is the original #Freenet.
There have been problems with the founder who had not been active for years and then decided to claim the name for an unrelated project. Official information: https://www.hyphanet.org/freenet-renamed-to-hyphanet.html
@bjoern @kubikpixel @torproject @i2p @Freenet
So is the current name Freenet or hyphanet?
@kohelet I use either the naming "Freenet / Hyphanet" or "Hyphanet, the original Freenet".
The name that can’t be taken away due to someone getting vexed up by something is #Hyphanet.
And it is likely the name that’s safer for the future, since the German Freenet AG¹ decided in 2022 to discontinue their older brand mobilcom and sell mobile phone contracts as "freenet" so I expect brand problems to raise their head.
